I started playing the 5 String banjo in 1974. I was listening to Flatt and Scruggs, Bill Monroe, and other great Bluegrass musicians and Hanging out at the Stype Brothers Banjo Shop in Hollywood Florida. I started by taking lessons from Dave Stype and then continuing on by listening closely to the records and going to festivals. I love the sound of the banjo whether its three finger style or Claw hammer style it gets me down deep inside. Before I learned to play the banjo I played the drums and learned from a great swing drummer that played with the big bands. His name was Layland Rollo. As a young boy I heard lots of swing music being played around the house. These days I play with the Acoustic Alliance Band. I formed the band in 2000 . We play traditional Bluegrass, Swing music and Gypsy style jazz. Our audiences in central Florida enjoy the variety and seem to feel that the Swing and Jazz styles fit well with Bluegrass since they're all American music forms.
