| ABOUT ME |
The Stoney Run String Band is originally from Laurel, Maryland but is named after one of the band members farm in Newark, Delaware. There are presently four members of the band playing traditional and contemporary bluegrass. The band has a long tradition of playing at coffeehouses, local craft fairs and festivals.
Ray Burns, from Laytonsville, Maryland, is our high-driving banjo player. In addition to playing with Stoney Run, Ray has been a member of the band Sun Creek in Phoenix, AZ.
An original member, Brian Markley (vocals, guitar, bass guitar) has a background in a variety of musical styles and previously taught guitar in New Jersey.
Phyllis Dodd has been with the group almost from the beginning and plays the doghouse bass and guitar. She used to play with the band "Pink Grass" from "lower-slower Delaware".
Mimi Cukier, who plays fiddle is a recent convert to bluegrass from classical music and is a member of the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra. Mimi attributes her love of bluegrass to its high energy, stating “it’s the only kind of music that gives me the will to exercise”. |
