I am a part of the Stoney Run String Band who is originally is from Laurel, Maryland. I play the stand-up bass in the band, but my actual love is playing bluegrass guitar. Stoney Run plays a mix of traditional and contemporary bluegrass. The band has a long tradition of playing at coffeehouses, local craft fairs and festivals. Members include myself, Phyllis Dodd on doghouse bass, vocals, and guitar. I played with an all female band called Pink Grass for five years although part of Stoney Run for almost 25 years. Ray Burns, from Laytonsville, Maryland, is our high-driving banjo player. In addition to playing with Stoney Run, Ray has been a member of the band Sun Creek in Phoenix, AZ. The other original member, Brian Markley (vocals, guitar, bass guitar) has a background in a variety of musical styles and previously taught guitar in New Jersey. Mimi Cukier, who plays fiddle is a recent convert to bluegrass from classical music and is a member of the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra. Mimi attributes her love of bluegrass to its high energy, stating “it’s the only kind of music that gives me the will to exercise”.

Bluegrass is our passion. Good flatpicking, good harmonies, and hard driving bluegrass. Favorite pikers are Tony Rice, Sam Bush,

Snide remarks, electrical instruments, and violence (unless playing music aggressively).

Guitar, bass, piano, the outdoors, and speaking Spanish
