| ABOUT ME |
I am who I am. WV born, WV again. I love it here and I love Appalachian culture. I have been playing some form of music most of my life. I was around bluegrass and gospel all my life and learned a few tunes in my younger days. In my late teen early twenties, I played mostly blues guitar. My influences were Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, BB King, just to name a few. After playing blues, and even some jazz and 'funk' music, I started getting bored with the gigging scene.I put away the Fenders and Gibsons and a picked up my acoustic guitar. I am hooked now. This is what I want to do, and the more I play, the more I play bluegrass. There are so many amazing bluegrass players out there. This is truly where it's at. Nothing beats a gathering of people who love and/or play bluegrass and old time music.
About the other stuff, I grew up in Morgantown, graduated with a degree in computer science.I did that gig for a bit, worked in a super fast paced environment. I'ts not quite my thing, I reckon. Currently I'm happily back in WV working with a guitar builder, making handmade acoustic guitars. He has built mostly classical and small-bodied steel strings, suited mostly for fingerstyle players who play classical or jazz. At the moment (lots of excitement on my part since joining in not long ago) we are starting a line based on the old pre-war Martin's. We're doing D/HD-28 and 18 models. We're also doing one based on the earlier 12 fret Martin 000's, and also a version of the 1930's Gibson L-00. If you're a guitar player interested in learning more about our guitars, or if you just have any suggestions on a guitar build you'd like to see. Feel free to drop a line. |
