KT was born in Southwestern Michigan in the winter of 1966 with a song and a rhythm in his heart.
As a young boy singing in church at the young age of 5, KT has sung many songs from every gender of music from gospel, county, rock, (a lot of 80’s rock) and even bluegrass (although not so nasal in sound).
The first thing KT played was drums at the young age of 12 “I liked playing the drums, they keep the beat and over the years I learned a lot of 80’s rock songs. When I was a teenage I wanted to be like Phil Collins a singing drummer, well that didn’t work to well so I stopped playing the drums, but I kept singing, and I still sing today, more for fun than anything else. I was told once “I’d never make it as a singer” so I stopped. But I love to harmonize with all kinds of music.”
In the late 80’s KT moved the North Carolina “to be closer to my parents who moved here a year before me”. Over the years KT had many different jobs from stocking the shelves in the local Food Lion to cleaning the schools and even being out in all kinds of weather as a Meter Reader for the local power company. KT helped his church by being a recording technician for the services and even help produce CD’s & DVD’s for the church.
Then one day in the late 90’s KT got a call from a friend at his church, who worked at a local radio station, and was asked if he wanted a job at the station, with two AM’s and one FM, helping to produce syndicated shows like UNC sports, NASCAR, and the local football games, he took the job and over the next year took on a Sunday Morning Gospel show and even got into producing shows for the DJ’s on the FM side of the station. Then one day was asked “what he knew about bluegrass music”, “I know the names of Bill Monroe & Ralph Stanley” … “My parents always made sure I listened to bluegrass and country growing up”.
On June 11, 2007 KT started the only all bluegrass station in the foothills area of North Carolina and ran the station until one day out of the blue he was told “they didn’t need him anymore” which was strange taking a sports talk radio station to one of the biggest listened to stations in the foothills of North Carolina, that was in July of 2008.
After all that happened KT still entertained the idea of trying to help promote bluegrass music by beginning his own business, as a booking agent and promoter of the music that he once told a colleague, “I don’t like all that twang stuff”. KT had fallen in love with Bluegrass Music and the artists who are so grateful for everything they have and the biggest thing the artists have going for them is the love of the music and what the music means to so may people around the world.
“Bluegrass artist sing for the love of the music, all them do … from the little guy who plays with others at the local pickin’ spot to the big guys who make all the ‘big bucks’ (lol), so why not start a business for the love of the music as well”
KT has gotten to know the likes of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, J.D. Crowe, Dailey & Vincent, Lou Reid and the host of Kneedeep in Bluegrass Cindy Baucom
As well as number of the local smaller bands, and some of the legends, whom KT hopes to help on there journey into the big time, if that’s what the bands want to do. |
