Carmen is a natural talent. Her first performance was at the age of 6 with her father, Camilo (who has performed with the legendary Gene Autry, Bob Wills, Marlon Brando, and The Lennon Sisters). Her love for music and stage grew. In high school, she received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award for vocals. Soon after, she became the lead vocalist for Hacienda Records artist and ZAZ Records artist, "Algo Simple" (Carmen worked with multi-GRAMMY Award winning producer, Gilbert Velasquez while recording with ZAZ). After recording and touring nation-wide with “Algo Simple”, she decided to go solo. It was at this turning point that she was approached by CMA Award winner, singer-songwriter Susan Gibson (writer of “Wide Open Spaces”) to appear on an upcoming PBS special. This inspired Carmen to record an original composition and shoot a video entitled "America" that has since been featured in two PBS documentaries; "Celebrate America!" and "Southwest Expressions" She went on to record for Grandma Gerber Records where she recorded an original song entitled "Stupid, Stupid Man". (Past band members of her band include Robin Brannon from the Christian vocal group Acappella). Carmen was invited to record and perform as a special guest with the WTAMU Jazz Ensemble. During this time, she was approached to go on tour with “Texas X-press”, an outreach touring troupe for the world-renowned outdoor musical drama “Texas Legacies”. It was during the tour that she was asked by the executive producer for “Texas Legacies” to take on the lead role (and was the first minority to be offered a lead role) as "Maria Hinojosa" in "Texas Legacies". Carmen accepted. She has since shared the stage with many artist including Country legends such as: Steve Wariner, Restless Heart, Leroy Van Dyke, Holly Dunn, Pat Flynn, David Coe, Troy Engle, Don Edwards, John McEuen, Riders In The Sky, and good friend Michael Martin Murphey. “Has a voice of an Angel” “She is the Real Deal” “She IS the Voice!” -Michael Martin Murphey – No. 1 Cowboy Music Singer, Pop/Country Hit Maker, Awarded Songwriter, Texas Country Music Hall of Fame Inductee. “The girl with the Pipes!” -Too Slim – Bassist for 2x Grammy Award winners Riders In The Sky. “I am her new biggest fan!” -Michael Merriman – Country Music Video Producer/Director (Nashville). "She has the style of k.d. lang, Aretha Franklin, and Patsy Cline rolled into one"... "She has the voice of a song-bird" -Judge Ernie Houdyshell - The Canyon News. “She has on hell of a set of pipes!” -Chip Chandler – Amarillo Music Critic
